Praline could feel her eyes widening in shock.
"You're telling me that you don't practice...at all?" She could practically feel her mouth falling open, like a codfish. She closed it, but continued to stare in admiration.
Sure, soccer had come naturally to her, but she still practiced, and because of it, she was practically unstoppable on the field. If Liao would practice...she couldn't imagine the damage he could cause. He would be unstoppable. His full potential hadn't even begun to be untapped.
"Holy shit..." She muttered to herself.
She then watched as he manipulated the weather again. She couldn't resist. Her skin itched to move. She yelped in the hail, and danced in the snow. She caught a flake on her tongue, relishing it. It was the weather of her birthday, glorious. But it was the next season that made her heart race. The skies cleared and she jumped with glee. The sun! She laughed, spinning around again. A split second later, however, she could barely see the nose in front of her. She stood perfectly still as to not run into anything. Then the fog rolled in, making Liao seem somehow more mysterious.
"That is wicked awesome." She beamed, stepping toward him again.
He had watched her, and she thought she caught a slight smile on his lips. Was he amused, or did he just enjoy using his power? She certainly loved using hers. She looked at him again, she still didn’t know much about him. He was a mystery she needed to solve. She stepped closer, taking him in. He was…fascinating. Yet the only way to truly get to know him would be to ask questions, that for once in her life she was too hesitant to ask. Instead, she answered his.
“Believing is seeing.” She countered, smiling.
“Just because you’ve never seen a million dollars, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. However, yes, it’s you can’t always believe what you see. It’s not tangible, and I can only hold the images for a little bit.” She nodded, knowing her power seemed silly compared to his. She was already disappointed that she had to take a defense class instead of combat. She would’ve loved to get in an arena and challenge other students, but her power simply wouldn’t allow it. Afterall, the most she could do was make someone run into a wall. How threatening was that?
-shakes head- total crap postage today... -feels head- maybe I have a fever... -shudders- will be better tomorrow. promise

"never."
He said simply with no sign of emotion and no key change in his voice. He sort of was always that way, emotionless. The day you get him to smile is the day you know he will not kill you or harm you. That your safe for another day, another night..perhaps even another week. That unless you physical harm him or really insult him, he will not lash out at you. But thats the day you make him smile and what a rare day indeed. There truely is a difference between a smile and a smirk. A smirk is menacing, something one does when insulting another or challenging another. A smile is what one does when amused or actually, dare I say it, happy. Something rare for our lil Liao.
He watched her again, frolick in the weather. She was an odd duck wasn't she? Jumping around, squeeling, spinning in circles. He felt almost bad for half a moment for treating her so awful to begin with. Liao moved one hand through a cloud of fog that surrounded them, as if pondering on something serious. What would it be like to have a friend here? There really wasn't room for friendship though. If he were to ever make the team...or....well go to 'the other side' a friend would be a liability. Plus there was the whole contact issue. He didn't like to be touched, not without permission. And friends seemed to hang all over each other. Plus, he didn't know this girl, he didn't want to know this girl. She just caught him in a moment of weakness. Right?
"I don't know. I suppose you could use someones fear against them," he said staring at her, his hand returning to his side, "People will do anything..say anything...when their afraid."
It was true. Liao's only fear was being weak again. It's the reason he never wrote to his family, to his brother. Boa had a power over Liao like none other and even now, when Liao could easily beat his brother, with or without powers he still felt imasculated. Afraid. Boa was the iconof his anger, the source of his hate. If it weren't for Boa's extreme beatings, Liao often wondered if he would have killed that boy today. Because all he could remember was holding the boy against the wall, hearing his pleas for help and seeing Boa's face. He imagined if Boa showed up right at this moment, he'd be back to cowering. But who knows...perhaps he'd seek revenge on his brother. The likely hood of Boa Zhang showing up in New York City was slim to none.
Liao's dark menacing eyes looked over the grounds, at the grey fog and the dark sky above. He allowed rain drizzle to begin falling and a slight breeze. He prefered things dark and cold. A moody teenager usually does. Taking a few steps back he allowed the shadows of the tree to swallow his body up, keeping his face in the light so he could watch her and she could still see him. unlike mostpeople, whose eyes were still visiable in the dark, Liao didn't pocess that ability. He knew she was already uncertain of him, but when she took a step forward he grew slightly nervous. Hince he reason he returned to the tree.
[had noooo idea what to write]

-gulps- this post needs some action -nods- is going to do something the praline will probably regret -nods-
Praline watched as he returned to his spot behind the tree. Weird... She thought, wondering how a guy with such a cool power could be so kept to himself. Really. She had met shy guys in her day, especially ones who were too shy to talk to her. And how did she deal with shy one's like Liao? She made them feel more comfotable. She showed them that she was human, too, and they shouldn't be quiet around her. Just be themselves. However, she had a hunch that this was Liao, as himself. He wasn't hiding because he was afraid or shy of her beauty. He wasn't hiding at all. He was just enjoying his own company. Whatever, that was fine with her.
Praline tossed the ball back into the center of the field, dribbling around a few more times. She could still see Liao behind the tree, and considering it was still foggy she knew he was still there. The soft rain her had created made things slippery and cast a shadow over everything. She didn't mind, but it made soccer a little trickier. Bouncing the ball on her knee, she took aim of the goal again, being sure to aim for the top right corner to avoid hitting him again. Goal. She retrieved her ball, and shot again. Goal. She did a dribbling exercise and shot again. Goal. Redundance. Repetitive. Boring. Praline didn't like conformity. She liked spontinaity. She liked little strikes of randomness. Maybe that's why she was promtped to do what she did next.
She walked up slowly towards the goal, acting as if she was going to retrieve her ball again. Slowly, she focused on the image of an abandoned soccer field. If Liao was to turn around and look for her, all he would see was a wet, empty playing field, and nothing more. She would be invisible to him. She smirked, tip toeing around the goal, creeping towards the tree.
"Curiosity killed the cat." Her father's warning echoed in her ears.
Praline had always been a cruious kid. It was what made things easy for her to practice. She was curious to learn more so she did. It also made her bold. If she wanted a cookie before dinner, she stole one. If she she wanted to play on the boy's soccer team, she would. She banned her innhibitions, and just let her body do as it pleased. If she wanted to attend an all night party on a yatch even though she was grounded, she went shooping for a cute swim suit, and snuck out. With her water bottle, of course. Alcohol was the one thing she had no interest in. She had seen it's effects. It was stupid. Pointless. What good would it cause?
With what she was about to do, she might as well have drank ten beers and a bottle of whiskey. But it was too late. She had challenged herself to do it, and now she had to meet that challenge. Plus, she was bored. Bordom made people do certain things. Dumb things. Sneeking around to the tree, she held her breath and waited for the perfect moment.
"Boo!" She laughed, jumping out in front of Liao, gripping his arms.
She didn't exactly know what she had expected from her little stunt, but certainly not this. Her heart practically stopped, and she had a sudden feeling that she was inside a lite bulb. A certain charge hung in the air and her giggles ceased. In the second she had jumped out at him, their eyes locked. His usual black orbs seemed to dialate for a split second, and for a moment she stared into what she could only think were his eyes before he got his powers. She couldn't tare her green eyes away from his brilliant hazel ones, and what was only a matter of seconds seemed to last for eternity. At some point, they returned to their regular black stare, and they were cold. She didn't move, and didn't realize that her hands were still touching his arms. She was frozen in her own mistake, to hypnotized by what was happening to move.

She stared at him and he stared at her. Silence. Completle and utter silence. Where were the crickets, the birds...the students that so often coated these grounds. How was it that the two of them had managed to be so alone together without interuption when usually it was hard to piss without ten people showing up beside you. His eyes looked at hers and then she withdrew them. Soon enough she went back to herself and all Liao could do was watch her. She seemed bored.
Sucks for her.
He was not made for entertainment, and he was not use to this much interactment. If she expected him to play with her she was delusional. Couldn't she just create a mirage of people to play soccer with her? Honestly the only thing keeping Liao from being completly and utterly terrible was his sense of pity. Evil showed no pity, not to anyone. But even Liao felt bad now and then. It was just something he couldn't help.
Whoosh. The ball went zooming past the boy and he watched from the corner of his eyes as she jogged to retrieve it. Perhaps she'd get lost in the fog along the way? That wouldn't be so horrible, then perhaps he could finally be alone in his anger. He would eventually clear the fog and she'd be able to find her way back to the grounds, so if she got lost it wouldn't be soo bad. Right? He closed his eyes and let out a sigh. Happy thoughts. Calming thoughts. But then he felt hands.
"Boo!
His eyes shot open and he looked at her. His skin was on fire. He wasn't sure why, it had been like this since he had killed the boy. Anytime anyone touched him, when he was unprepared he grew terribly angry and his skin felt as if someone had stabbed him with a thousand needles. Growling within his throat, he sotod up straight stepping out of the shadows towards her, as she backed up still holding onto him. His dark eyes peered down at her, into her eyes, and flashed a warning. If she knew what was good for her, she would let go. The fog twisted away, as if being sucked into the air. The sky grew a pitch black, and lightning began flashing. A cold breeze swam over Hawthorne. Perpetual night. True he couldn't hold it for long, but even if he relaxed it would turn into a storm the likes of which Hawthorne academy has never experienced.
"Do...not...touch...me."
A huge gust of wind swarmed around them, pushing her back away from him and Liao rose into the air staring down at her, letting the wind currents lead him above her. Lightning and thunder raged above, the sky comletly black, likened to his eyes. The breeze grew colder.
"Never...touch...me."

Praline exhaled, realizing she hadn't let herself breath for those few moments. That wasn't all she was aware of, however. She was aware of the heat, and the dark, and the fact that even though it was storming, there was no sound. her skin was aware of the sudden cold. How could she feel so hot, and so cold, all at once? This struck her as profound. Her hair whipped around in the wind he was creating, such angry wind.
"Someday your foolishness will get you in trouble" Her mother's warning tone echoed somewhere in the back of her mind. It seemed that someday was today.
She swallowed, allowing her body to fully realize what was going on. Shock was the first phase. Denial was the second. This was all an illusion. A mirage. She was trapped in one of her own illusions. Yet she knew deep down that this was real. She knew enough about illusions to know that this wasn't one. While everything seemed surreal, it was tangible. A quality which her illusions would never possess. She stepped back with him, waiting. That was all she could do now. And then he snapped. His voice was slow and cold, and he rose up into the air. The wind was raging now, so angry, like a hurricane. Yet the air around him seemed so still, like her was in the eye of it all. She was thrown to the groung by a gust, and she was almost afraid to look up through her curtain of hair to see. Almost.
Peering up at him, she watched as the same wind's that knocked her down lifted him up. She stood, feeling the flight or fight instinct kick in. She faced a dilemma. Praline wasn't one to run. No. Never. But her power wasn't meant for fight, either. Imagine her disappointment when the Dean had denied her a place in the Combat class and stuck her in Defense. She wanted to be able to challenege other kids with her gift, but the truth was, she couldn't. And now, he knew. He knew her power, and would be expecting one of two things from her.
1. Flee. He was powerful, and he knew it. And nothing would give him more joy than to watch her take off into the woods in fear.
2. Fight. But that wouldn't work, because he would be expecting a mirage.
Her power had gotten her into this, and it couldn't get her out. Or could it? Hadn't he said something about fears? That gave her an idea. An idea that would either work, or get her into more trouble. But how much more trouble could she cause, really? The only way to go from here was up, right? It was a long shot. A very long shot.
Concentrating, Praline knew it was a stretch. She was going to try to project an illusion. Except this time, like no other time before, she didn't know what exactly she was projecting. There was nothing she could picture in her mind to project onto his. But it had to work. It just had to.
Thankfully it did. When she opened her eyes Praline stared at the image of a boy next to her. Actually, he looked a lot like Liao, but older. His brother, maybe? His father? She had projected the image of Liao's fear. Was this it? Or had she messed up? She looked from the image to Liao. He seemed dumbfounded. But she couldn't break her concentration, or the mirage would be lost. Now that she knew what she was projecting, she focused harder. The only way to save herself at this point, was to strike fear into Liao's heart. If he even has one. And she prayed he did.

Liao looked down at her as she lay on the grass, rising higher by the moment. She would do two things. 1. run away if she knew what was good for her. OR 2. do the foolish thing and try to trick him with a mirage. The first would satisify him for the time being. The second would probably just make him angrier. She reall truely thinks, she could stop him with a simple mirag.e What was she going to do, fathom a tiger and have it chase him around but never be able to actually bite him? Lightning struck not but ten feet away from her.
"Someday your foolishness will get you in trouble"
Another lightning, it hit the tree behind him and it quickly caught fire. The flames reflected in his dark eyes as he watched the orange embers fly. He was laughing on the inside, scmreaing in completly glory. The symphony of madness surrounding them was intoxicating. Another flash of lightning struck another tree nearby creating another fire, but this one cracked in the middle, falling to the ground. Hail fell from the sky, the size of fists and Liao walked in the air as if going down steps till he reached infront of her, his eyes glowing fromt he fire, the hail avoiding contact with him, lightning and thunder lighting up the otherwise pitch black sky.
"Do..not...touch...me."
Another flash and thne.
Liao
He froze. Turning around, the boy saw something henever dreamed he would. Boa. He knew it was a mirage, but he looked so real. So vivid. Boa was four years old than Liao, so now he'd be...lets see...17,18,19,20/21 years old. He had always been taller than Liao, until now. Was this past Boa or present Boa? Because were he was standing he towered over his older brother and yet still felt smaller. Years of abuse and torment came flashing towards him. The time Boa caught a box filled with spiders and locked both Liao and the free spiders in an empty closet for three hours. Or the time Boa talked Liao into coming to the roof of their country home to smoke cigarettes with Boa and his friends. Once Liao got up there, they burned cigarettes into his right arma nd then pushed him off the roof. The hail ceased, the lightning calmed. the thunder continued to moan out but fainter. The sky returned to gray and Liao fell to his knees, hands placed ontot he muddy ground, his shoulders hunched over, his hair falling to cloud his eyes.
"No more. NO MORE I SAY!"
He screamed at her, shaking a bit and slapping at the moist ground.
