Okay, I just want to point this out-Jam is gone until like...whenever her camp ends. Soooo if we're all waiting for her to post and blow the whistle or whatever then... how about we don't? Someone post/blow the whistle, or just tell me to shut up and maybe I'll make another crappy one to get it over with.

I reckon we should make a posting order. That way we can injure and abuse people if they don't post. -Bounces- Dylan leaves today I think? Or was that Becky? I forget... BUT I GOT A DIGITAL CAMERA FOR MY BIRTHDAY. Rawr. I know you're all so jealous...or at least pretend to be.

They all stood up, got to their feet. Suddenly any jokes or remarks made had flown over Lainey’s head. This was the time to focus. It was time to use her powers to their fullest extent; make the best of what she could do. And she could do a lot. The problem was just getting into it, getting angry. Once she made that step she could access her powers. She could move people, things, create shields and barriers, and she wanted to test her newest discovery: the energy blasts. They were admirable and strong—unbeatable. They could throw you back or dent you. And while Lainey didn’t really want to hurt anyone, the prospect of learning to control all these powerful things inside her was far too strong for her to be careful.
The two teams faced each other out on the arena floor. Everyone in the stands knew this was it: the big fight. Members of the team were on each side with other incredibly talented people. And while Jake’s team was eighty percent female, it didn’t lessen their chances. Not at all. She’d make sure of that. Across the way Flick was telling his teammates their powers. He seemed to downplay what they could all do. Yes, Jake was a werewolf but not only was he scary when he was one, he was strong. There was no reading his mind or telling what he’d do next. Words couldn’t explain Molly’s power well enough. “Emotions, fear, and shit” didn’t really jar the brain. Lainey took a second to really think about what an empathy could do. And Molly seemed like an advanced one if she could take her powers. Jade’s power was pretty much explained since everyone had seen her use it at the party. It only tore things apart, it was much better to stay away from Jade. Lainey wondered if everyone realized that Jade probably wouldn’t use the power during combat. Jade’s power could literally kill people. It was too much of a risk.
Meanwhile, Flick had no idea what Xan did, which almost amused her. Lainey, being closer to Xan than most, knew that she could stop time—or actually a person’s time. She couldn’t stop a whole room, but stopping a person still had some excellent advantages. And Xan wasn’t stupid, she was going to be a hard fight. Yet Flick had described her in the littlest amount of words possible. Lainey could do so much more, and she was ready to prove it.
Jade was trying to talk through how they should attack to Jake. Even if it had been directed toward Lainey, she wouldn’t have listened. There was only one way to attack: attack. You go forward, give it all you got, and stop them. That was what worked best in sports. It was so much easier to score in lacrosse on a runaway, two vs. one, or a one vs. one than to go through a seven vs. seven and pass it around, wait for the perfect cut and shoot. It took too long and gave the defense time to get themselves together and defend correctly. That logic worked perfectly in sports, and Lainey had always been convinced it worked perfectly in Combat too.
She lined herself up with Seth while Jade was trying to figure things out. She wanted a challenge and she wanted a win. Lainey wanted satisfaction, and she wouldn’t get any more than if she beat her own leader. She wanted respect from everyone, especially Seth and she wanted to prove it to everyone that she deserved a spot on that team. That she could control her powers. It was all about focus.
Lainey closed her eyes for a moment, felt the energy and the heat radiating from her teammates and her opponents. And then she thought about things that made her angry. Her first thought went straight to Julie Carson, her so called mother. She thought about the night she found out she was adopted, how angry she was that her mother could hide such a huge fact from her. She felt her powers stir deep inside her. They wanted to come out, but she wasn’t feeling enough yet. She thought of her friends abandoning her after she saved their lives. She thought of Jade, blowing up at her for trying to be the nice person she was. She thought of the Devil telling her what to do, laying out her destiny and life before her: no choices, no turning back, no future. She thought of his voice in her brain, etching away at the corners, feeding on her fears and taking away her pleasures. She thought of the way he so easily sent pain shivering through her body. And all of that got her mad.
Her eyes and hands glowed with yellow. She stood in a stance ready to dodge and ready to attack at the same time. She glared at Seth, making him know she was coming for him. She played fair, she didn’t stab someone in the back even if they were the opponent. Sportsmanship: something she’d learned long ago. Every second seemed to slow as she analyzed her opponents once more, strategized quickly about what she’d do. And the whistle blew.
It brought her back to her senses, where her anger still loomed menacingly. Directing her hands at the ground, large chunks of rocks were pulled out from underneath people’s feet. She hovered them threateningly in the air over all her opponents, then let the rocks drop. She didn’t watch long enough to see if anyone had gotten smashed. All she saw in front of her was Seth, and she looked at her hand, saw a little ball almost, forming and she knew. She threw her arm forward, as if she were throwing a ball and an energy blast came his way. He dodged it easily, but she’d found her rhythm. Suddenly she pelted blasts at him from both hands. She wasn’t aiming, but one would have to hit him—right?
Lainey stopped, took a breath, realized how much that had taken out of her and stumbled for a second, but still stared forward, waiting for Seth to emerge. Her chocolate eyes looked to her left and right for surprise attacks and as she watched her teammates fight on, she felt proud and confident. They had this.

Panic set in as Molly waited the beginning. She had never felt so much pressure since the incident. And yet here it was, haunting her. Not only was she receiving emotions from the other team (nervous, flighty, and some prepared) but the overwhelming feelings she received were at a closer proximity. She opened her eyes, glancing around quickly admidst all the commotion raging inside of her. Rydman. Damn, she hadn't even considered that. Molly had only really met Xan once, and the encounter had left her feeling unsure. There was something so off about Xan, almost like she was an empath as well. Molly had an odd feeling the Xan wasn't only carrying her own baggage, but that of something darker as well. Already, she could feel Xan's alter ego, or whatever it was storming through her veins, threatening to rip her from her sanity. Focus.. Her fingers twitched as she struggled to gain control. A battle she was obviously losing, and the battle hadn't even begun.
She spun around, surveying the rest of her teamates. How much did she know about them, really? What emotional problems did they bear? What did she have to gaurd herself against? She could feel a blunt anguish building up somewhere within her core, and Molly resisted the urge to cry out. Here she was, her chance to show everyone how powerful she could become and she was allowing herself to succumb to weak-knees and flu syptoms. One thing was for sure. Someone was having serious termoil. Molly was consumed wiuth rage building up from someone in the room, causing her head to spin. She felt as if the floor was sliding out from beneath her feet, as if she would combust any second. She was too full to scream, or even move. As people around her readied themselves, she stood there, frozen in her own pain.
And Just when she thought she would die, it stopped. Instead of a rampage of emotions, she was surprisingly calm. It was then she realized she had been holding her breath, that her eyes had been closed, and she allowed herself to breath. It was strange, and yet, so calming. No more noise, no more pain. It wasn't as if everyone had suddenly stopped feeling, though. But she had finally done what she had always struggled to attain. She had control. Her senses were extremely heightened in this new profound state. Instead of just feeling the fear from the other team, she could smell it. She could taste the anticipation in the air, and her eye sight was so clear. Everything seemed to move in slow motion. Flick doing jumping jack's. Lainey stepping up to meet Seth for battle. Jade preparing for battle. It all seemed so surreal.
She stuck out her jaw defiatley. She was ready. She took a step forward as the Coach raised the whistle to signal the beginning. Lined up with the rest of her teamates, she angled her body to as to go unnoticed, to avoid an attack until she was ready to unleash everyone's emotions on themselves. Amused with her own inner strength, she breathed deep, continueing to calm the storm that still raged somewhere deeper inside of her. And the whistle blew.
Molly wasn't the first to react. Her new plan was the sit back and watch until she felt it was crucial. Why attack when she had just found peace? But she didn't have the chance. Her body ricocheted backwards, knocked down by an imaginary attackers. She looked around, confused. Panic set in and she could feel the composure she had gained begin to falter. She stood on shaky legs, wondering how an attack could come at her so forcefully. And from who? Her mind raced. One quick glance to the Combat before her answered all her questions, and gave her a sense of new found fear. Seth lay on the floor, covered in a pile of rocks from Lainey's attack. Part two of her empathy. Not only could she feel their internal emotions, but she just caught some of the physical pain as well. Seth's pain. Her body ached as if it was she that had been hit by the rocks. To make matters worse, she could feel herself slipping again. The blunt force of the attack had knocked her focus away, and things were rushing at her again, making it nearly impossible to stand. Stop stop stop!. It was as if all of her hopes were being taken away and she cried out in anguish.
The battle continued on, and so did Molly's torment. With every physical blow that anyone on the floor took, Molly recieved it as well. Outside she was being ripped to shreds, and inside she was about to explode. Pain and anger built inside of her as she was knocked to the floor once again. This has to stop....NOW!. Her own anger and pain bubbled to the top, giving her the strength she needed to stand again. What could she do? She would have to wait the battle out, and endure it all. But something told her that she wouldn't survive the battle if she let that happen. She fell to the floor again, pulling her knees to her chest. Rocking back and forth, Molly let the tears fall. To...full...Can't...breath She tried to regain her focus, but to no avail. It was time to release the pressure. She looked up as the floor began to shake beneath them. Some people stopped fighting, unsure what was happening. She let a small gasp escape her lips, as debris from the fight began to fly everywhere. But the pressure continued to build.
"Stop..." She whispered, too weak to raise her voice.
Her pain caused the objects to fly around more violently. Some of the rocks Lainey had produced earlier crashed around them, hitting a few students and knocking them off their feet. Molly was hardly aware of what she was doing at this point. Her odd level of telekenisis was on over drive, causing some of the bleachers to moan under the pressure she was releasing. But she couldn't stop. The horror of the other students in the room only added to the tension that tore through her. Not again...not again... Her destruction kept building on top of the fighting that still managed to ensue, until Molly reached a boiling point.
"Miss Hunt, you have more power than you may ever hope for. Not only can you feel the things of other's around you, but someday, you may be more powerful than any of them. Because you can basically become them. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"Not hardly, Dean Woodman."
Now she did. Like an out-of-body expirience, Molly watched herself in wonder and horror as her body began to contort. She had the odd sensation that she was being ripped in half. And ironically enough, that's how it seemed. Molly let out a little scream as she looked to her left only to find a duplication of herself. Looking around in confusion, she locked eyes with the girl Alison she had met from the party the previous night. The horror and recognition Molly was feeling reflected on Alison's face as well; because they both knew. Molly had channeled her powers. Alison had been the closest person to Molly when she had reached her "pressure" point, and she had unknowingly channeled the girl's powers. In facsination, she looked back to her clone.
"What the-" But before she could utter the last word, the pain was back. This time in two fold since there were two Mollys. Things were going to get interesting.
[[crap. sorry. is still tired. decided to channel someone who wasn't on vacation, hope you don't mind, Emmy. -pokes-]]

Post by Xan Rydman on Aug 3, 2006 18:15:48 GMT -4
She’d gotten up coolly and walked down to the arena. Combat was old news. She looked around and watched her teammates and opponents. Some faces were set, ready to prove something, while others looked a little nervous. And still, some were acting like this was a walk in the park. She walked confidently down the stairs, able to watch people easily without them noticing thanks to her sunglasses. They were so much better than the masks some of the kids had to wear.
The dirt floor colored the bottom and sides of her sneakers as she walked over and took her place side by side with her team. Jake Wallace, the savage werewolf who could bite your leg off, Lainey Carson, the power packed five foot one wonder, Molly Hunt, the dynamic empath who could channel others’ powers, and Jade Delanvers, the bitch who could blow. And Xan Rydman, that cool chick who could stop time. Or maybe it should’ve been the attractive tall girl that could take you out while you checked her out. Something catchy. But as she looked at their opponents she knew she needed to start focusing. First of all, Liao Zhang creeped her out royally. The kid didn’t know how to smile and could control the weather. Shotgun not fighting him? Seth Hudson had already been claimed by Lainey and she wouldn’t have wanted to fight him anyway. If one person in Hawthorne Academy could kick her ass, it was Seth Hudson. She’d never had a class with Aidan McCoy and figured she could hold him off for a little bit, but he was on the Team so he had to be talented. But how far could Magic take you exactly? She hadn’t studied up on Aidan like the others. He was a complex mystery to her still.
Then there was Alison Carmichael who could multiply herself, which was Xan’s problem. Freezing one person? Easy, done. But if the girl could copy herself, it just wouldn’t be a good situation. And there was Flick who could change his size, make himself really tall to look down everyone’s shirts. Still, if he got too big would Xan be able to stop him?
The only real conclusion she came to was that she’d have to wait for the whistle and watch. This way she could also watch the Team, see them using their powers, detect their weaknesses. And then she could relay this to Harsham Hall, or even better, the Devil himself. Sure, she was in Combat class, but she had in no way forgotten her mission. And this year, the stakes were bigger. Harsham Hall could forgive mistakes—they had all year to deal with the Team and humiliate them again. But the Devil, he was big time. He wouldn’t allow mistakes and he wouldn’t be patient. He’d made that clear already when he’d invaded her head in the middle of the night, giving her specific instructions. He hated questions. He hated waiting for things to get done. And if you defied him, well, just say hello to a nice migraine for the next three days.
The whistle blew and she looked up, stepped back and watched. Lainey Carson, of course, went right in there, telekinesis and then those yellow blasty things that looked like they hurt. Dirt rose and it was hard to see the other team. But Xan could see Molly Hunt, who looked like she was in extreme pain. Xan had met her before, but Molly didn’t really have a taste for her, which was a surprise. No one had really not liked Xan before and it sort of bothered her. But not that much. Molly wasn’t her target anyway, she could deal without a friendship with the empathy. And Xan wasn’t stupid. She should probably stay away from Molly. Who knew what kind of bad vibes were flowing freely from her head?
What surprised her, though, as she watched Molly was that suddenly there was two of them. Xan’s eyebrows raised. It seemed she’d challenged Carmichael’s power. Well, way to go. Xan stepped up, seeing Flick still standing there. She was bored; she might as well do something. As if she was raising her hands to signal stop, she made a quick movement toward Flick. All of a sudden, his blue eyes that had been watching the action were frozen. He was stuck in time. Of course, it would only last thirty seconds or so, but he’d probably be a little weirded out since he didn’t know what Xan could do. She took a step back, her eyes wide and ready behind her big sunglasses.
[Crap.]

Fighting was something Seth was pretty good at. However, it looked like he was at a disadvantage in this battle, since he couldn't use his powers. Everyone else was showing off what they could do. Lainey had raised a bunch of rocks into the air, and Xan seemed to have done something to Flick, though Seth wasn't paying enough attention to figure out exactly what.
The reason he wasn't paying attention to that was because of the rocks falling, via Lainey's powers. Seth quickly had to jump to the side to avoid being smashed into a pancake, and he narrowly dodged it. A few smaller rocks hit his back, and he felt a biting sting echo through his body as pain filled his back. Still, pain wasn't enough to beat him. He had avoided the worst of it, so now he had to return the attack.
Seth turned to face Lainey, and he expected to have a chance to attack; however he was wrong. Before he could even grip the hilt of his sword or plan some kind of physical assault, she was at him again, throwing bright yellow balls of energy at him. He didn't know how painful it would be to get hit, but he had no interest in finding out.
Seth's eyes became a bit wide. Of course, fighting was never easy or happy, but when Lainey pelted him with small energy blasts, Seth had little choice on how to escape from it. He couldn't use his powers, that always was and always would be out of the question. Instead he jumped back and threw himself to the ground; then without hesitation he rolled forward, towards Lainey. It didn't seem like a good idea to go towards the person throwing balls of energy at you, but he actually had a plan. Seth had to be able to take care of himself and the others; it was his responcibility.
So how was going towards the attacker going to save him? By rolling on the ground he was beneath her attacks, and by rolling towards her under the cover of smoke, he wasn't seen by her or in her line of fire. Plus, going down like this, rolling on the ground with the intention of using his body to plow through her legs and knock her down.
[Bah. That sucks. I'm so unused to RPing this way. I need to get back in the swing of things.]
